ADVAMED, Executive Director, AdvaMedDx

Purpose of Position

The executive director of AdvaMedDx is responsible for the strategic vision and leadership of policies impacting the global diagnostic industry. AdvaMedDx is a sector within AdvaMed, the global trade association for the medical technology industry.

The Executive Director will work closely with the AdvaMedDx Board of Directors, member companies, and the AdvaMed organization to develop and implement strategies to advance AdvaMedDx members public policy interests. The Executive Director is AdvaMedDxs lead representative within AdvaMed and in all public facing activities.

The Executive Director will have a proven record of accomplishment in leading strategic, comprehensive, and proactive public policy initiatives. Successful advocacy experience at the Congressional and Administration level is critical. Experience in building effective alliances with third parties will be essential to success. A working knowledge of the Food and Drug Administrations and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services legislative authorities, regulations, and regulatory processes is required, and diagnostics specific knowledge is a plus.

The successful candidate will demonstrate general knowledge and experience in the diagnostics industry or related field and possess well-developed political and policy making savvy, diplomacy, and consensus-building skills.

Essential Duties of Position

Strategic Plan Development – Works with the AdvaMedDx Board of Directors, senior member company staff, and AdvaMed senior staff to lead the development and periodic updating of a comprehensive strategic public policy plan focused on emerging and early-growth med tech company issues (three-year intervals)

Strategic Plan Execution – Leads the implementation of the strategic plan and manages the work of the key AdvaMedDx Board committees in collaboration with AdvaMedDx member companies and AdvaMed staff

Policy – Leads a public policy process to develop proposals consistent with AdvaMeds positions and the Dx strategic plan to shape and respond to the health policy environment, leverages perspectives of the investment community in public policy process

Board of Directors – Manages establishment and maintenance of Dx Board of Directors and associated nominating and governance processes; monitors culture of the division to accomplish key goals and objectives outlined in the Dx Strategic Plan

Alliances – Establishes partnerships with appropriate allied organizations to coordinate and align the strategic plan and related policy work of the industry at the domestic and global level; serves as the AdvaMedDx representative at the global organization and trade association level

Partnerships – Proactively collaborates with association and nonprofit executives, leaders of patient groups, and other thought leaders to build coalitions on key issues

Internal Policy Collaborations – Collaborates with Government Affairs, Payment and Health Care Delivery Policy, and Technology and Regulatory Policy to interact with FDA, CMS, NIH, Department of Commerce, and Congress on all appropriate regulatory and legislative initiatives relating to emerging and early-growth companies on both the Federal and state level; serves as an advocate for the emerging and early-growth companies

Public Relations – Collaborates with Public Affairs to oversee the public affairs aspect of the diagnostic company voice with emphasis on building alliances with third party stakeholders, including patient groups, the investment community, professional societies, research advocacy organizations, and other health care sectors

Industry Spokesperson – Serves as an AdvaMedDx spokesperson on emerging and early-growth company issues

Industry Expertise – Keeps abreast of industry trends broadly, including business developments and/or challenges facing the industry, especially as it pertains to diagnostic companies

Supervisor – Supervises AdvaMedDx staff and manages external contractors; directs and manages all aspects of the Dx budget

Travel Requirements – 25-50%, some international
